Man Utd boss Erik Ten Hag is reportedly keen to have latest acquisition Lisandro Martinez with the squad in Melbourne Australia after closing in on a sensational steal from Arsenal to have the 24-year-old at Old Trafford.
The centre-back is set to complete his transfer to Manchester United subject to medicals for €50m plus add ons.
It is understood the Argentine turned down a summer move to Arsenal, ultimately opting to join Manchester United in his quest to become a Premier League player.
Martinez will reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford after enjoying a lot of success together at Ajax.
According to The Athletic, plans are already in place to ensure he joins the team on the pre-season tour in Australia.
There are currently 30 players on tour following Axel Tuanzebe’s departure from the squad, but there has been suggestions that Will Fish could be called up.
This comes after chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough travelled to Amsterdam to agree a deal, with help from Ajax CEO and former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
Martinez would definitely shake things up in defence because Raphael Varane or Harry Maguire could be set to lose their place in the team.
Only time will tell who Ten Hag selects as his preferred centre-back pairing or if he will opt for a back three.
